February was a month of movement -- of steady hands, patient work, and the unfolding of beauty through persistence. It has been a month of exhibitions, of community, of combing through the past and stepping into something new.
Far More Precious Than Jewels
I am honored to have my work included in Far More Precious Than Jewels, and exhibition curated by Theresa Newsome and currently on display at the historic Carver Community Cultural Center in San Antonio, TX.

This space holds stories -- built in 1918, it originally served as a school for African American students during segregation. Over the years, it has transformed into a vibrant cultural hub, hosting legendary artists like Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. To stand in this place, where history and creativity intertwine, is humbling.
The exhibition runs through March 23rd, and on March 20th, I'll be joining an artist panel talk to discuss our work and the deeper themes of the show. If you're in San Antonio, I encourage you to visit -- there is something powerful about seeing art in a space that has held so much resilience and brilliance over the years.
I'm curious, how does art help you connect with history, culture, or your own personal journey?
A Pop-Up at St. Paul United Methodist Church

Another highlight of this month was the one-day exhibition at St. Paul United Methodist Church, where I had the privilege of showcasing my work alongside two talented artist as part of the conclusion to their Black History Month sermon series.

St. Paul's congregation has been gathering in this building for over 160, making it one of the oldest black churches in the city. I am deeply grateful to the leadership and congregation for welcoming us into their space and giving us the opportunity to share our work in such a meaningful setting.
Studio & Gallery Tour -- March 7-9
Next up if the 17th Annual On & Off Fredericksburg Road Studio Tour, kicking off on Friday, March 7th at Bihl Haus Gallery.
This is an incredible opportunity to visit artists in their creative spaces, see new work up close, and engage with the process behind the pieces. If you're planning to attend, I'll have a few studio maps available (click here to view it on Google Maps) so you can find your way. I'd love to see you there!

The Lesson in 133 Locs
Two months ago, I started a process I wasn't sure I'd finish at times -- combing out my locs. 133 of them. The first one took 45 minutes. I felt overwhelmed. I thought about giving up. But something happens when you stick with a process long enough -- you get better. By the end, I was combing out each loc in 20 minutes.
Consistency does that. It transforms what once felt impossible into something manageable, and then into something natural. This rhythm of showing up -- whether in art, in personal transformation, or in any creative pursuit -- is what makes growth happen. In the words of my mentor (and now art collector!), Rex Hausmann, "It's all in he daily."
Songs on Repeat
Music is woven into my creative process, shaping the energy of my studio and the flow of my brushstrokes. Lately, these songs have been in heavy rotation. Click on the album photo to listen on Spotify:

Gratitude & New Works in the Shop
I already spilled it - a special thanks to my new collector, Rex Hausmann, for purchasing one of my original paintings from 2018. Seeing my work find a home where it will be appreciated and lived with is always an incredible feeling.

Also, I've just added three new posters to my shop! These pieces start at just $25, making them an accessible way to bring art into your space. If you've been wanting to add something meaningful to your walls, now is the time to grab one.
Tell me, what kind of art speaks to you the most? How doe sit make you feel when you bring art into your space?
Closing Thoughts
This month has reminded me that art -- like life -- is built through patience, consistency, and community. Whether through exhibitions, studio visits, or personal transformation, I am grateful for every step of the process and for those who continue to walk this journey with me.
If something in this post resonated with you, I'd love to hear from you. And if you're in San Antonio, I hope to see you at one of these upcoming events.
With gratitude,
PORSCHIA DANIELLE
