GONE FISHIN'
GONE FISHIN'
Gone Fishin', acrylic on canvas, 18" x 14", 2025.
This peacefully contemplative acrylic work explores the artist's response to the divine call to movement and mission.
Titled "Gone Fishin'", the piece features a figure seated in a boat, looking out toward a vast horizon. This composition serves as a visual metaphor for the call to action for believers, reflecting the mandate found in Mark 16:15: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." The artist’s use of a radiant, golden palette symbolically emulates the light of divine guidance illuminating the path ahead.
Technically, the intricate, coiled texture of the figure's hair is a nod to her own African American heritage, conveying a sense of grounded identity amidst a environment outside of her control. The presence of the fishing rod and the forward-facing orientation of the boat affirm that the artist’s journey is no longer one of "chasing," but of purposeful casting into the world. The piece serves as a serene reminder that we are called to move with the current of His Spirit, ready at any moment to reel in one whom He has called to Himself.
